Nicholls named military friendly for sixth year

For the 2014 school year, Nicholls State University has been selected as one of the most military-friendly universities in the country for the sixth year in a row by GI Jobs, a premiere veteran organization specializing in helping veterans of the Army, Air Force, Marine Corp, National Guard and Navy find success in a civilian lifestyle.

This honor means a lot for Nicholls considering only 15 percent of American universities can claim the title “Military Friendly” every school year. When determining the most military friendly universities, GI Jobs evaluates the veteran facilities and programs of each university to see who makes the cut.

“I am very pleased with the recognition the veteran program here is getting, and I find the program helpful for veterans transitioning from military members to everyday civilians. It is deserving of all the accolades,” said Nicholls State’s Coordinator of Veteran Affairs Gilberto Burbante, who is a Marine Corp veteran himself.

Another factor that’s made Nicholls so appealing to veterans is the hospitality and support of the University towards veterans on campus.

“The care and respect displayed by faculty, staff, students and the community makes veterans feel welcomed and at home,” Burbante said.

It just goes to show genuine hospitality does not go unrecognized.
