Athlete Close-up: Senior quarterback Beaux Hebert

Beaux Hebert, senior quarterback, arrived on Nicholls State University campus in 2010, and since has had many expectations to live up to.

Hebert is the youngest son of former New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Bobby Hebert. He is also the younger brother of “T-Bob” Hebert, who was an offensive lineman at Louisiana State University.

“There was a lot of expectation of me because of my name, but it is not something I think about anymore. Having a great father and brother to give me advice was helpful,” Hebert said. “I’ve learned that I have to make a name for myself and be who I am.”
Hebert was born in the city of Mandeville, Louisiana in 1992 and was raised in Norcross, Georgia. He attended Greater Atlanta Christian High School and set a new team record for completions his senior season.

Hebert also played basketball in high school and won a three point shooting contest in Tennessee.
“I like basketball a lot,” Hebert said. “I guess you can call me an adequate athlete.”

Hebert was offered a scholarship to Northwestern State University, where his father was quarterback for the Demons. The University of Arkansas and Head Coach Bobby Petrino were also interested in him. He was not offered a scholarship from the Razorbacks, but would have been considered a walk-on.

His decision to come to Nicholls was based on how he was recruited by Former Head Coach Charlie Stubbs.

“Nicholls was my best opportunity to play football. I even changed my name from Bo to Beaux, and it fit the Thibodaux scene really well,” Hebert said. “My grandparents are now only 45 minutes away, and my dad and brother are in New Orleans, so I made a good decision.”

So far at Nicholls, he has 11 career passing touchdowns and has 1,606 yards passing on a completion percentage of 59.7.

“It’s been a tough career in the win and loss column, but it has made me a much better person. I think that is the best thing about athletics,” Hebert said. “Football is a tour of life, and it helps mold you in to the person you are going to become.”

Hebert hopes the Colonels will win their last seven games.

“With the battles we have fought, I really want to come out here these last few games and get better. I believe we can win some games,” Hebert said.

Hebert is currently pursuing his Mass Communication degree and hopes to follow in his dad and brother’s footsteps.

“I think I might jump into radio or television and maybe be an announce and try to do what my dad and brother are doing at their current job,” Hebert said. “Nicholls has been a good experience, and I would recommend getting your Mass Communication degree here.”
