The website for Godfather’s Pizza states “the godfather runs the family with one simple oath: “Pizza Pie Piled High or Else,” and soon this oath will affect students at Nicholls when Godfather’s Pizza

takes over Le Bistro.

Students will see changes starting in the early semester. To date, Union Services workers have been trying to get an agreement signed with Sodexo Marriot services, since they will be responsible for doing business with Godfather’s, Brenda Haskins, director of Union Services, said.

So far, a contract has been sent back and forth between the two parties because of an addendum to the original contract.

The agreement between Sodexo and Godfather’s will be a branded concept, which is a national chain that has made a contract with another food service operation. As a result, Godfather’s will be under the control of Sodexo.

“Sodexo will be responsible for meeting all of the strict guidelines the Godfather’s or any other branded contract will require,” Haskins said.

The most important thing will be consistency for the company, she said. Godfather’s, no matter which one you go to, always has the same products, and the same quality of products at each of their stores.

“Sodexo is going to have to ensure that their employees are trained, and that they use the same products that the other stores use to make their product,” she said.

Union Services is looking into having a coffee concept move into the union as well. About three years ago, pizza was the number one thing that students noted they would like to see as a branded concept on campus. Since it has taken such a long amount of time for that to happen, student opinion has changed.

“Coffee has become the number one item during the

time we were working for the pizza concept,” Haskins

said.

One of the things that union services is hoping to find a way to provide is a variety of coffees including iced coffee, expresso, flavored coffees and also a variety of pastries, she said.

“Once we put Godfather’s in, we will immediately move the coffee to the other side and just combine that with Le Melange, the snack bar area,” Haskins said.

In order for Godfather’s to move into the current facility, some renovations will have to be made. These renovations are not expected to take more then six to eight weeks, start to finish. Haskins said she hopes that this would have been done for this semester, but

things just did not work out.

“We are coming to the end of a ten-year contract with Sodexo. I think that they just want to protect themselves that if they should not get the bid back that they would not be paying for this, and as a

University, we did not want to be burdened with having to pay the bill,” Haskins said.

The original plans for Le Bistro, according to Haskins, were to make it a dance hall that only served soft drinks and beer late in the afternoon. When the legal age for drinking changed, the plans for the

dance hall also changed, and the facility ended up trying to be similar to a fast food place.

“It has never done what we want it to do financially, and the biggest problem for that is that there is no kitchen in that area. Everything that is ordered other than the drinks and coffee machines that are up front has to be done in the kitchen that is shared with the snack area,” Haskins said.

A pizza oven will be installed while the current kitchen for the snack bar area will be able to be used for Le Melange only.

Being in a new operation, some of the staff may change, and there may be the need for management and trained staff to work for Godfather’s. As a result of Godfather’s taking over, the facility will stay open longer and there may be some delivery services implemented as well.
