Men’s BasketballJunior forward Stefan Blaszczynski was named to the All-Southland Conference third-team, the league office announced Monday morning.

Blaszczynski played and started in all 27 games for the Colonels this past season. He led the team in three categories, averaging 16.4 points and 6.4 rebounds a game, while also recording a team-high 29 steals.

A native of Sydney, Australia, Blaszczynski also finished fourth in the conference in scoring and fifth in rebounding.

Nicholls concluded their 2006 campaign with a 9-18 overall record and a 5-11 finish in conference play. The nine overall wins and five conference victories marks the most wins in a season for the Colonels, since going 14-14 and 12-8 in the SLC during the 2000-2001 season.

Women’s Basketball

Nicholls guard Jamie Octave was named to the All-Southland Conference third-team Sunday.

The junior guard led the team in scoring and rebounding.

The fifth best scorer in the conference averaged 14.6 points and 6.3 boards per contest.

Octave, who started every game, scored 20 plus points on six separate occasions including a season-high 25-point showing at Northwestern State.

Sophomore point guard Katherine Plummer also received All-SLC honors, as she was named to the honorable mention team.

Plummer averaged 11.1 points per game and was one of the conference’s leading assist getters with 4.38 a contest.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was the first Lady Colonel in three years to garner SLC Player of the Week honors after scoring 18 points and dishing out eight assists in Nicholls’ upset victory over Stephen F. Austin earlier this season.

Octave and Plummer received honorable mention honors in 2005.
