Fraternities recruit new members for 2011

The fraternities of Theta Xi, Kappa Sigma, Kappa Alpha Order, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Tau Kappa Epsilon have begun their rush process this week to begin a new bond of brotherhood.
“Fraternity Rush is the opportunity to see what the Greek community can offer whether it’s social, in the community, or even academically,” Madison Martin, president of Theta Xi and Interfraternity Council president, said.
Recruitment week began on Monday with Greek 101, an orientation in the ballroom led by Mike Matherne, advisor and alumna to Kappa Alpha Order.  During this time, students got information about greek life such as semester fees and expectations.
Fraternity Rush consists of three nights of formal meetings and different activities, with each student getting the opportunity to meet with each fraternity. On the third night students narrow their choices down to two fraternities that they like most, with current members having the opportunity to show prospective members an in-depth look into their fraternity.
Thursday morning is “Bid Day”,where students find out which fraternities have selected them. It is possible for a student to have more than one bid, however “the choice is up to them”, Steven Plaisance, president of Kappa Sigma, said.
In order to rush, you must first sign up at www.nicholls.edu/greek.  You must also have a 2.5 GPA and have full-time status regardless of whether or not you are a continuing student or a freshman.
“I strongly encourage all students to rush. Even if you don’t make it you will still be able to make great connections and network which is by far the most important aspect of college,” said Martin.
