‘Steel Magnolias’ gets rave reviews

As the lights went down and music began to play, the scene was set. Truvy’s beauty shop lit up, and immediately the audience was transported to Chinquipin, La. From the fantastic one-liners to the dramatic monologue performed by Elizabeth Holcomb as M’Lynn, this production left no room for dry eyes. “Steel Magnolias” was a hit. The actresses did an amazing job of fulfilling the temporary suspension of disbelief. The way these actresses made the audience feel what they were feeling and understand the pain or the joy they were undergoing.

The opening night performance exceeded most if not all expectations. Congratulations to the Nicholls Players for such a well-directed, well-acted and well-designed production.

The actresses themselves seem to have taken in these characters and made them their own.

Applause to each actress on a well-done performance. The Nicholls Players have out done themselves this time. Everyone involved in this production should be proud. If this is a preview into the future of the Nicholls Players it is a bright one. The next production for the Nicholls Players will be in the fall, and they will be performing Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
