Advice for a new semester

With the semester well underway, many of you are probably in the same predicament as me — too much stress! It’s hard to believe that, within the first two weeks of class, I already have about 20 million things to do.

For me, this semester is going to be a BIG reality check.

I guess I can forget about Thursday nights or free weekends!

I want to try to start this semester on the right foot.

I thought about five suggestions that might benefit all students.

First, make sure to get out of bed and go to class.

This means no more sleeping until 2 p.m., so make sure to buy a hat or a brush because you’ll be in public.

Second, when in class, pay attention and actually try to take notes.

No more flirting with the hottie next to you. You might impress him or her even more by not drooling on your notebook every day.

Third, when you go home, actually attempt to do all your assignments.

This requires taking your school bag out of your trunk. Forget about watching back-to-back episodes of Survivor and Temptation Island.

Fourth, if you feel the need to flirt, pick a good study buddy.

This could be very beneficial! Not only are you learning the information for your class, but you might also hit it off with your study buddy.

Fifth, if you’re having problems with something, go talk to your professor.

Contrary to popular belief, they don’t bite!

For some reason, most students are terrified to speak to their professors.

I have actually found this last suggestion to be very helpful.

Not only do you get to know your professor better — and, no, this isn’t sucking up — but you also can obtain some very valuable information.

I hope that these few suggestions, which may sound complicated to some, help to start your semester (and mine) on the right note.
