The Lady Colonels soccer team was shut out for the second time this season after losing to unbeaten Louisiana Tech. The offense of the Lady Techsters appeared to be too much Friday as the Lady Colonels allowed four total goals on the day, two in each period. Three of the four goals came from Rachel King, while the last of the four came from Mo Rockwell.

This is also the team’s second straight loss against unbeaten opponents.

“Our girls need to understand the difference between playing well and losing and not playing well and losing,” said the head coach, Dylan Harrison. “That has to be what we learn from this game. Even though we put together some decent performances, we have to show up and be willing to do it every week.”

Throughout the game, the Lady Colonels could only muster four total shots, three of them coming from sophomore midfielder Sam Etherington. The final shot came from sophomore Carolyn Noble.

Junior goalkeeper Molly Mersereau kept busy much of the game as Louisiana Tech recorded 21 shots. Mersereau ended the day with five saves and four goals allowed against a heavy offensive attack.

None of the four games played were conference games, but the Lady Colonels look to make use of the experience for future conference play.

“The positives are that it’s early in the year, and it’s not in conference when matches have more weight,” Harrison said. “Hopefully we can learn from this, and we can make it a season-changing type of event. If our girls respond well, get their heads back into it and realize that we have some work ahead of us, then we will be fine. We will absolutely be fine because that’s not our team; that’s not what we are about. We’re about working hard, working for each other and staying positive and seeing where that gets us. We just weren’t able to do that today.”

After wrapping up the final game of a three-game homestand, the Lady Colonels take to the road as they head for the Jacksonville State Tournament.

The Lady Colonels’ first game against Alabama A&M kicks off Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a game on Saturday against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 1 p.m.
