Terrebonne High School received a $5,969 grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, which was matched by $3,000 by the Terrebonne Alumni Association. “It is really unusual for anyone or any place to get such a large art grant, especially a high school in this area. Grants are typically given to large art organizations or ballet institutions,” Jenny Authement, state sculptor, said.

The grant has enhanced education at Terrebonne High Authement said.

Students created an Architectural Timeline to show the development of buildings over history.

The first project completed was the Cave Dwellings.

The project features paintings from 28,000 B.C., and the two cave that are presented are Chauvet cave and Lascaux cave.

The second project was the pyramids. The Great Pyramids, Giza, Menkaure, Khafre and Khfu, from 2601-2515 B.C. were re-created.

The third project was the re-creation of Stonehenge.

The fourth project was the Obelisk, which spans from 1918-1875 B.C.

All four sides of the Obelisk have hieroglyphics, which includes religious dedications and commemorations of the lives of rulers.

The fifth project was the Stone Heads.

The original Stone Heads are located in Easter Island, which is west of Chile.

The sixth project was the creation of three types of Greek columns.

The columns from 72- 80 A.D. are Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.

The seventh project was the Flying Buttresses from 1163-1250.

A flying buttress is an arch that springs from the upper part of the pier buttress of a Gothic church and acts as a support.

The seventh project was the Geodesic Dome from 1967, which was inspired by the revolutionary dome of 1922 in Walter Bauerfeld, Germany.

“The students really enjoyed working on all of the projects. It was truly amazing to see everyone so eager about art,” Authement said.

She said the purpose of the projects was to raise awareness about art in the area.

“I really hope that this will promote the importance of art in school,” she said.
