The International Film Club will be sponsoring Conversations with Volker Schlondorff, presented by Herr Schlondorff, the German director. The presentation will take place on Feb. 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Ellender Room of Ellender Memorial Library.The lecture will be the highlight of a month-long tribute to the director. As part of the tribute, the club will also be showing two of Schlondorff’s films, “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “A Gathering of Old Men.” The films will be presented in La Bijou Theater on Feb. 24 and 25 as a double feature beginning at 5 p.m.

Anke Tonn, associate professor of information sciences, the office of Academic Affairs and a group of faculty, students and Thibodaux community members founded The International Film Club in 2003.

Student club members agree that the club offers a unique experience.

“I think that watching these films is an experience that allows you to meet people from different places and professions. Showing foreign movies enables American students to know what is happening around the world, and I think that’s good,” Joana Garboboggini, business senior from Brazil, said.

The group has nearly 50 members, who help to choose the themes of the films to be shown each semester.

“We show the films in their original language with English subtitles,” Tonn said.

The club charges no entrance fee for admission to the films that it sponsors, however, a $5 donation is suggested. Club members, faculty members, students or community residents may sponsor a film or a series of films for a fee of $35.
