Members of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry discuss strategy during their flag football game Tuesday at the St. Thomas Aquinas field.

Intramural flag football began this week and will continue for the next month. Games will be played every Monday through Thursday at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Director of campus recreation Mike Matherne said these times were chosen because daylight savings time comes to an end next month.

“It will not be long before it becomes dark at five o’clock,” Matherne said.

There are 23 teams playing this year, nine of which are Greek organizations.

“In order to have your team compete, you need to fill out a team roster as well as schedule requests,” Matherne said.

A team can have up to 15 players. The games will be seven on seven.

“Matchups are chosen by drawing from a hat,” Matherne said. “We also try to accommodate the teams’ schedule requests.”

Campus recreation will supply jerseys and other needed equipment.

“All we ask teams to bring are their players and good attitudes,” Matherne said.
