During halftime this past Saturday, amidst the Colonels homecoming victory against Arkansas Tech, Cody Hood and Chelsie Bergeron were announced as the 2013 homecoming king and queen.
Hood, nominated by Circle K, and Bergeron, nominated by Kappa Sigma, were crowned as the new homecoming king and queen by the 2012 homecoming royalty, John Berger and Brittany Chiasson.
Hood, junior biology pre-dental major from Napoleonville, serves as a member of Omicron-Chi Chapter of Kappa Sigma, senator of arts and science for SGA, member of Circle K and the Biology Society.
Bergeron, senior English Education major from Pierre Part, serves as a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Orientation Team, Nicholls Ambassadors, Order of Omega and Nicholls Students for Life, but has also been involved in Circle K and NEAT.
“I am humbled and honored knowing that my fellow students voted for me,” Hood said. “I can’t thank them enough. I greatly appreciate their support and confidence in me.”
“Being named homecoming queen is a dream come true,” Bergeron said. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think this could happen to me, and I was just happy to be on court with amazing Nicholls’ students. I feel extremely blessed and honored to have been chosen by my peers.”
Besides being named homecoming queen, Bergeron was also named Orientation Leader of the Year.
“Being an orientation leader was a dream of mine, and the team became my close knit family. Just knowing they voted for me for this honor was so amazing. I love them all so much, and I will never forget all the wonderful times we shared. They made me who I am today, and they made me fall in love with this university,” said Bergeron.
As new freshmen are coming in, Bergeron and Hood want to stress the importance of getting involved. Getting involved can quickly enrich your college experience. There is an organization for everyone here on Nicholls’ campus. Hood and Bergeron stress to take part in all that Nicholls has to offer inside and outside of the classroom.
With Hood’s involvement in his fraternity and other organizations around campus, he stays involved but he said his most memorable moment besides being crowned king was his first time participating in Greek Bid Day.
“I love Nicholls State because from the very beginning, I knew I had made the right decision to further my education here,” Hood said. “It is not only an excellent educational facility, but a place I proudly call home. It has helped me grow into a well-rounded person.”
Hood still has another year here at Nicholls, but upon graduation he plans to attend dental school where he can work at a well-established place or open his own practice.
When Bergeron leaves Nicholls in May, she plans on coming back to earn her master’s degree while working as a high school English teacher, with the possibility of coaching volleyball.
