Holliday wraps on new Thibodaux sandwich shop

Personal Opinion Restaurant Review

Roly Poly Sandwiches opened its doors on Wednesday, Jan. 21 to an anxiously awaiting and more than welcoming public.
Roly Poly claims to be the home of the original rolled sandwich. Experiments in a restaurant in the 1970s led to the opening of the first establishment in Atlanta, Ga., in 1996. Even then, the owners, Linda Wolf and Julie Reid, were swamped by the consumer demand for their full-of-flavor, filled tortillas. They started franchising in 1997, and now there are more than 130 establishments, predominately east of the Mississippi River.
The new Thibodaux eatery, located at 627 Canal Blvd., sits across from the St. Joseph Co-Cathedral — a fitting location since the food seems to be almost heavenly.
The menu has 50 different wrap choices from turkey, steak, roast beef, ham, roast pork, chicken and seafood. They even offer 14 vegetarian choices. If by some
chance you cannot find a sandwich you like, just make you own. Well, sort of. They make the sandwich, but you pick what goes on/in the tortilla. Another great aspect of this sandwich shop is the consumer has the choice of white or wheat tortillas and the option to have their wraps cold or toasted. In addition to all the wraps, they offer sides of soup, coleslaw, potato salad and pasta salad.
I had the pleasure of tasting two different wraps — the Santa Fe Chicken and the Peachtree Melt — along with a side of both coleslaw and potato salad. The flavors of the wraps were tasty but a little weak. I could have used extra fillings. I would recommend the Santa Fe Chicken to everybody and the Peachtree Melt to the few adventurers out there. The coleslaw was just bad. There is no nice way to say it, but I just did not enjoy it and considered it a waste of money. The potato salad on the other hand was awesome, perfect and (insert your own adjective). Slices of potato, a slight peppery flavor and a hint of dill all mixed with just the right amount of mayonnaise made the salad what it is and what it should be.
The service is great. The prices are great. Best of all, the food is great. All I have to say is I’m hungry, and that’s a wrap.
