Kiala Singleton, family and consumer sciences junior from Houma, discusses class schedules with Leon Hutchinson, freshman from Bourg, Tuesday in Scholars Hall.

Kiala Singleton, family and consumer science junior from Houma, dedicates her time to helping the Nicholls community. As a resident assistant, commonly known as RA, for Scholars Hall, Singleton wanted the job to make a difference in a resident’s life.

“The pros outweigh the cons,” Singleton said. This is her second semester as an RA.

In addition to helping residents, Singleton also volunteers at the campus daycare. She believes her training as an RA and volunteer work will help her become a social worker or begin a career in child protection services.

“It gets pretty hectic, but I would not trade any of it for the world,” Singleton said.

When she has the free time Singleton enjoys reading. Her favorite books include the Harry Potter series and Dean Koontz’s From the Corner of His Eye.

Aside from reading, Singleton also loves watching musicals and horror movies with friends.

“I am a movie fanatic,” Singleton said.

Many people do not know that when she was younger, Singleton moved across Louisiana, Georgia and Hawaii.
