Nicholls television goes viral

Nicholls joins the Internet community with the creation of a new YouTube channel. The channel, called “NTWtelevision,” acts as a television station for the University that features videos covering various events such as Crawfish Day, art gallery exhibits, Family Day and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The channel also features a parody of the popular show, “Man vs. Wild,” called “Man vs. Nicholls.” The show follows a mock Bear Grylls who shows students how to ‘survive’ at Nicholls.

“NTWtelevision is made up of the work of students in the MACO 401 and 402 classes,” mass communication instructor Lance Arnold said.

The channel was created last year and has featured events from the unveiling of the new Colonel Tillou to the recent town hall meetings on budget cuts.

“The channel really didn’t take off until this semester,” mass communication sophomore and president of the Radio Television Digital News Association Brittany Altom said.

The channel’s latest videos are titled “Nicholls. Who Cares?” and feature the opinions of people in the community about the potential budget cuts.

The first “Who Cares?” video was uploaded two weeks ago and featured Tammy and Scott Ledet, a mother and son who have been involved with the Nicholls Communicative Disorders Program for many years.

The channel has since featured the testimonies of Kathy Benoit of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, Drake Pothier of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, Buffy Fegenbush, Berwick High School principal and Randy Montiville from Textbook Rentals. Each video focuses on a different University program and how it is important to the region.
