Fuselier fuels D-Unit to victory over Buleedat

With 27 points from guard Donald Fuselier, health and physical education sophomore from Lafayette, the D-Unit defeated Buleedat 72-69 in men’s intramural basketball action on March 18 in Shaver Gym.Also leading D-Unit in scoring was Travis McCloud, allied health sophomore from New Orleans, who scored 15 points. James Butler, mass communication sophomore from Kenner, scored seven; and Cornell Cornish allied health junior from New Orleans and Kendrick Rousseau, marketing freshman from Kenner, scored six points each.

Leading Buleedat offensively was Dustin Johnson, nursing junior from Houma, who scored 16 points. Ernest Nixon, accounting junior from Houma, scored 14; Adam Gardener, marketing senior from New Orleans, scored 11; Jason Daigle, scored nine; Jarred Voison, business administration junior from Houma, scored eight; and Brad Deroche, management sophomore from Houma, scored seven.

Although they were down 10 in the first half, Fuselier said he inspired the team at halftime.

“I told my guys at halftime to come out and play defense cause that is all we needed to do,” Fuselier said. “I was hot and just kept shooting, and then I found my rhythm and just kept coming.”

“In the first half, the ball fell for us,” Voison said. “In the second half, we ended up falling behind. Fuselier was on fire. He was open, and he made his shots.”

Whoosiers 53, All-Stars 48

The Whoosiers defeated the All-Stars 53-48 in men’s intramural basketball action on March 18.

Bryan Blank, freshman from Thibodaux, led the Whoosiers offensively with 13 points. Ahmad Trench, management sophomore from Thibodaux, scored nine; Beau Hebert, science education sophomore from Thibodaux, scored seven; Phillip Rose, nursing senior from Thibodaux, scored four; and Derek Szush, freshman from Thibodaux, scored two.

“We knew we could play, but we just had to slow it back down,” Rose said. “We just had to settle down and start playing solid defense.”

Leading the All-Stars offensively was Qunicy Jones, accounting senior from Lafayette, who scored 17 points. Isiah Mitchell, allied health senior from New Iberia, scored 15; D’Juan Hypolite, psychology junior from New Iberia, scored 13; and Cory Chaisson, general studies sophomore, scored three.

“We had some mental errors and just got tired,” Jones said. “They ran a man-to-man defense, and we made just simple turnovers but were not watching our backs and communicating.”

Bayou Wolves 53, Team One 20

The Bayou Wolves defeated Team One 53-20 in men’s intramural basketball action on March 18.

Leading the Bayou Wolves offensively was Demarquis Randle, freshman from Thibodaux, who scored 18 points. Earl Collins, arts senior from Kenner, scored 15; Jade Duffey, sophomore from Thibodaux, scored 11; Allen Jordan, freshman from Jeanerette, scored five; and Travis Wilright, freshman from St. Rose, scored four.

Anthony Blank, freshman from Belle Chasse, led Team One with 12 points. Sean McKey, freshman from New Orleans, scored three; Andre Kelly and Jamal Thompson, freshmen from New Orleans, each scored two.

Renegades 52, Buhleedis 36

Thanks to 20 points from Crescent Washington, graduate student from Thibodaux, the Renegades defeated the Buhleedis 52-36 in women’s intramural action on March 18.

Also leading the Renegades offensively was Shauntay Fletcher, general studies senior from Hawaii, who scored 12; DeAndra Walter, general studies senior from Houston, Texas, and Caley Carter, general studies senior from Great Bend, Kan., each scored eight; and Kayla Zito, family and consumer science junior from Plaquemine, scored four.

Leading the Buhleedis was Elizabeth Holcomb, who scored 11 points. Lindsey Yelverton, general studies sophomore from Thibodaux, scored nine; Sherri Schexnayder, marketing senior from New Sarpy and Lauren Callais, freshman from Cut-Off, scored each scored six points each; and Haley Fagin, general studies sophomore from Houma, scored four.
