50 Cent CD ‘same old’ thing, not impressive

50 Cent came out of the underground New York hip-hop scene and was hand-picked by Jam Master Jay. His hard-edged syrupy flow was just what hip-hop needed at the time to combat the Will Smiths of the world. He became the biggest rapper on the planet and started feuds with pretty much every other rapper whose name he could pronounce. Now he is trying to make his own “8 Mile” with “Get Rich or Die Trying.” 50 and his G Unit posse fill the soundtrack with nothing but arrogance. They start new feuds and continue old ones, but who could blame them? It is not like other rappers are lining up to challenge them.

A long list of no-name producers supply the beats on this hour-long celebration of all things gangsta. Loose guitars, swollen horns and trunk-rattling bass make listeners bob their heads, while the lyrics make them long for the hustle.

A single listen to this soundtrack will make even corn-fed farm boys want to trade in their overalls for flack jackets. If it does not get naked, go bang or cost more than your house, G Unit does not care about it.

This is the album to throw in the player if you have one of three things in mind-clubbing, banging or hustling. It is definitely not the “go to church” album.

This is the same album 50 Cent and G Unit have been putting out since the original “Get Rich or Die Trying,” only without the help of the blessed doctor. These guys are good, but does the public want to shell out $20 for the same old thing?
