The Student Programming Association will hold its annual Winterfest on Dec. 1. The event will start at noon and end at 5 p.m. From noon to 3:45 p.m. there will be a DJ, and at 3:45 p.m. Stroke 9 will play. Everything will be free except for alcoholic beverages.
The food will be the same as it was for Family Day. The SPA is going for a carnival theme at Winterfest.
The SPA has brought back fair rides this year, which haven’t been a part of Winterfest for two years. The fair rides were the hardest thing to find, including the Zipper, the Hustler, the Silver Strike Himalaya and Berry-Go-Round. The place that the SPA usually deals with is in New Orleans, and many of their rides were damaged in the storm.
The Zipper is a Ferris wheel with two people riding in it as it flips. The Himalaya is a little roller coaster that goes backwards and forwards. The Hustler zig-zags, and the Berry-Go-Round is a kiddy ride.
“I think that the rides will be the best part of Winterfest. I think that this will be a great way to end the semester,” Kayla Dupre, sociology sophomore from Krotz Springs and SPA member, said.
There will be a Zero Gravity Machine, a mechanical bull, and the Trampoline Thing, which is a trampoline that makes one jump 20 feet in the air.
During this event, students will be able to get their picture put on a puzzle, get henna tattoos and make their own custom dog chains.
“I just want to see if we will have a good turnout of people this year. I have worked really hard on playing this event,” Dupre said.
