Student stays busy on campus

David Vicknair, pre-law junior from Thibodaux, stays busy being involved in the Student Programming Association, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, College Republicans, orientation team, Emerging Leaders and the Interfraternity council. Although Vicknair is involved at school, he also enjoys sports and fishing. Along with his extracurricular activities, Vicknair also has the privilege of walking the president’s dog.

Q: How did you get your job of walking the president’s (Stephen Hulbert’s) dog Max?

A: Raz (Deborah Raziano), director of alumni affairs, referred me to him because she has known me for most of my life. Hulbert called me about a year and a half ago to start babysitting his dog Max.

Q: What is a usual day for you?

A: It is very busy. I do not like having free time, so I keep pretty busy. I go to class until after lunch, then I go work in the admissions office for a few hours, and then I usually have something to do with my family or fraternity.

Q: What are your plans after graduation?

A: I want to go to law school. I am preparing to take the LSAT (Law Student Admissions Test) in June.

Q: What was it like to be in the commercial for Nicholls?

A: It really was not a big deal. It only took a few minutes to film it. I think that everyone has seen it.

Q: What else do you do for the president?

A: I just babysit Max and housesit when Dr. Hulbert and his wife go out of town.

Q: What is it like to know almost everyone at Nicholls?

A: I do not think that I know everyone. I definitely think that it is a unique University. It is cool to know a lot of people.

Q: What makes a good leader?

A: I think that it takes a lot of courage and understanding. You have to be able to listen to other people.

Q: Do you think SAE has been successful at Nicholls?

A: I know that it has been. It has been at Nicholls for less than a year, and we have over 40 members. We have had the highest GPA in the IFC every semester.

Q: What else do you want to do at Nicholls?

A: I do not know of anything yet, except that I want to graduate.

Q: What is it like to work in the admissions office?

A: It is one is of the most fun things. It is really enjoyable. There is never a dull moment in there. I like that I get to help students.

Q: What do you think is the best thing about Nicholls?

A: There are really a lot of opportunities to get involved here. They encourage you to grow and get you ready for life after Nicholls.
