Studying in different locations around campus could help study habits

As the semester shifts to mid form, enjoying where you chose to study may help you cope with studying for the rest of the semester.

The first semester break for Fall 2015 begins one week from today, and summer laziness and twisted sleeping patterns should have shaken off. By now the college lifestyle of classes, eating, studying, dissecting some social media site and binge watching shows on Netflix should be in full effect. However, the most important aspect of college lifestyle is, of course, the studying. Students should be preparing for midterms and finals right now by tweaking their study habits daily. Although studying may not be the most breathtaking experience in a college career, one way to keep it exciting is studying in different locations around school.

One thing that’s great about Nicholls’ campus is there are many areas that allow students to relax on a beautiful fall day and study somewhere besides cramped in dorm rooms.

There are a few places on campus that students have been spotted studying. Probably the most familiar, and most traditional, is the library. Practically from 8 a.m. when Ellender Memorial Library opens to 11 p.m. when it closes, there are students all over the library. From outside by the water fountains entering into the downstairs the lobby, to the second floor and third floor, there is surely someone around totally consumed by a book or his or her phone. Silence is still the golden rule in the library, and you still have a chance to get ahead of the crowd of potential procrastinators that’ll overcrowd the place once November rolls around.
Jazzman’s Café is also a place many students are spotted throughout the week. Students lounge on the restaurant’s patio enjoying lunch, while also getting a chance to indulge in any caffeine addiction they may have developed in college.

Students should feel comfortable while studying. One of the most creative ways students have chosen to relax while studying comes with shade. Hammocks are occasionally seen hanging in some pine trees in different areas around campus. Many Nicholls students dangle hammocks by the stadium and next to Ayo Hall to be closer to campus in order to access Wi-Fi.

Studying is key to making a good grade in every course you take, and more importantly learning your major’s subject matter. No matter how you do it or where you do it, the amount of studying you do is what is most important. A feeling of dread shouldn’t overcome your body when you think of studying. The material you’re reviewing may be boring and not change, but changing your surroundings may change your mindset and demeanor about studying.
