Marcus Dickey, a former junior defensive lineman for the Nicholls football team, died on Sunday in a car accident.
Details of the crash have not yet been released. Jerad David, Nicholls’ director of communications and legislative affairs, said he received a message yesterday evening from Jonathan Terrell, vice president for Collegiate Athletics, that Dickey died in a car accident.
“We feel the pain of losing a former student-athlete,” David said. “Our thoughts are with Marcus’ family and friends in this difficult time.”
According to Nicholls’ athletic website, Dickey was born in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was the son of Marvin and Daphney Dickey.
During his time at Nicholls, he pursued a degree in psychology. He was known not only for his dedication to the field but also for his kind heart and authenticity.
A standout at Biloxi High School, Dickey earned the Mississippi Association of Coaches 6A All-State First Team and was also an All-Region 4 6A honoree. As a senior, he tallied 61 tackles, the third-highest on the Indians, before graduating in 2021.
Dickey arrived on Nicholls’ campus in 2022, kicking off his career on the practice squad. As a redshirt freshman in 2023, Dickey made appearances in nine games, played on special teams and totaled two tackles.
The Nicholls community asks that you keep the Dickey family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
