Since she was four years old, Tiffany D. Jackson knew she wanted to be a writer.

Born in New York, Jackson is an award-winning young adult author and filmmaker. She attended Howard University for her bachelor’s degree and studied film.

For her master’s degree, she moved back to New York and attended The New School for Media Studies. Jackson currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Jackson has over a decade of experience in TV and film. In 2009, she wrote and directed the short horror film “The Field Trip”, which received praise in the film festival circuit.

Jackson also became a New York Times Bestselling author for her works “Allegedly,” “Monday’s Not Coming,” “Let Me Hear a Rhyme,” “Grown,” “White Smoke,” “Santa in The City,” and “The Weight of Blood.”

Jackson debuted her first novel “Allegedly” in 2017, which focuses on a teen who is accused of murdering a baby when she was nine years old and finds out she is pregnant while living in a group home.

To write this novel, Jackson researched and learned about the US criminal justice system and those who are involved.

Jackson was nominated for a NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in the Youth/Teens category in 2017 for “Allegedly.” She is also listed on multiple lists for the Best YA of 2017 such as Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal.

Her second young adult novel, “Monday’s Not Coming,” debuted in 2018. This novel tells the story about a girl whose best friend disappears. Jackson was inspired by the disappearances of black girls across America.

School Library Journal named “Monday’s Not Coming” a best book of 2018.

“Grown” is Jackson’s fourth novel published in 2020. It tells the story of a teenage singer getting her break into the music industry, but she’s being targeted by a predatory rock star. Jackson was inspired by the allegations against R. Kelly.

She wanted to show the history of abuse of power and rape culture in the entertainment industry and how the systems in place fail young Black women. “Grown” was fourth on the Young Adult Hardcover New York Times bestseller list and it was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award in Young Adult Fiction in 2020.

Jackson has two novels that will be debuting this year: “Blood in the Water,” which will be released on July 1, and “The Scammer,” on Oct. 7.
