The Nicholls State University softball team lost its weekend series against conference opponent UIW following losses in both games of a doubleheader on March 13.
A 5-2 defeat followed a mercy rule loss for the Colonels, making it the second conference doubleheader they were unable to sweep.
Colonels’ softball head coach Ron Frost said the team needs to take the loss as a lesson.
“The biggest thing is letting this go and moving on to the next game because it’s a long season ahead of us,” Frost said. “We gotta learn from it, build off of it and get better.”
Frost said improvement comes down to doing the little things right like advancing runners on bunts, hitting behind runners and driving runners in scoring position home.
Heading into this week’s games, the key to success for the Colonels is flushing out the loss.
“We have to get back after it in practice and focus on what we can control,” Frost said.
The Colonels travel for a mid-week game against Southern Miss on March 19.
