Nicholls basketball player arrested, police report states

7 p.m. update

 

Nicholls’ Athletic Director Jonathan “J.T.” Terrell said he has not received any additional information because the incident is under investigation.

He said that once more information is released he will talk with the university, the team and legal counsel to decide the next steps athletics and the university should take.

Terrell said Ellis was a “gametime decision” ahead of tonight’s game.

Ellis is on the Colonel’s bench, but has not entered the game.

12 p.m. update

Nicholls State University men’s basketball player, Emarion Ellis, was arrested on Feb 9, 2025, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office daily booking log.

Ellis was arrested by the Thibodaux Police Department for reckless operation of a vehicle and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Ellis, a guard for the Colonels men’s basketball team, transferred from Bradley University to Nicholls following the 2023-24 season. He played in 17 games for the Colonels in the 2024-25 season, averaging 3.6 points per game.

The Nicholls Worth is awaiting comment from the university.
