University Police investigating incident near campus, David says

Jerad David, Nicholls communications director, said the victim of Friday’s attack was treated at a hospital and released.

David said that police identified the assailant as Juan Monroy, a construction worker that was working on an off-campus site at the time of the attack.

He is charged with attempted second degree murder. His bail was set at $500,000.

University Police are investigating an incident that occurred near Nicholls State University’s campus late Friday afternoon.

An email sent to students, faculty and staff by Jerad David, Nicholls’ director of communications, on Friday, Feb 7 at 5:50 p.m., stated that the incident occurred near the Research Center adjacent to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

David added that the suspect in the incident is in police custody.

When asked where to find more information on the incident, David said campus police are investigating and cannot comment on the matter.
