Timyra Cotton, the Homecoming Queen of 2024, shared how “incredibly rewarding” it felt to be crowned. Cotton expressed gratitude for the support she received from the Nicholls community and emphasized the gravity of being crowned homecoming queen.
“It feels like a celebration not just of my efforts but of the whole community that has supported me. Being crowned homecoming queen is a special honor, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent our campus and the people who make it feel like home,” Cotton said.
Cotton’s community-oriented nature has developed into an expansive record of campus involvement. She expressed fulfillment when participating in organizations where she connects with people, creating positive impacts on campus. Cotton said her roles have varied over the years, leading her to planning events, supporting freshmen and collaborating with others to “bring new ideas to life.”
“It is fulfilling to know I’m helping create a positive environment for everyone,” Cotton stated.
While at Nicholls, Cotton has dedicated her efforts to organizations such as the NAACP, Student Government Association and Student Programming Association.
She emphasized her appreciation for the experiences she garnered and the people she met while working with the SPA.
“It has given me a chance to meet so many people with shared values and interests, and it has been a space where I feel connected and supported,” Cotton said. “The experiences and friendships I have gained there mean a lot to me. My leadership skills would not have grown this much without SPA.”
In the long term, Cotton plans to focus on personal and professional growth while embracing the challenges she may face. She graduates in May 2025 with a psychology pre-counseling degree.
She intends to return to Nicholls in the fall of 2025 to complete her master’s in school counseling.
Cotton’s multifaceted experiences and commitment to supporting her community have made her exceedingly qualified to earn the title of Homecoming Queen.
“I am looking forward to making a difference wherever I go, and I hope to keep finding ways to impact my community,” she concluded.
