Nicholls women’s volleyball fell to Southland Conference leader Southeastern Louisiana 3-1 on Oct. 31.
The Colonels(7-14, 2-8 Southland) got out to a hot start, winning a hard-fought first set 25-23. The Lions(19-4, 11-0 Southland) answered quickly going on an 8-3 run to start set two.
The Lions ended set two on a 10-3 run, handedly winning the set 25-14.
The Colonels landed a few punches early in set three, taking a 6-3 advantage, but the Lions fought back to the tune of a 22-6 run, handing the Colonels a 25-12 loss in the third set.
The rivals traded points in the fourth set, the Colonels drawing within two late in the match. However the high powered Lion offense proved too much to contain as Southeastern ended the game on a 8-4 run, taking the final set 25-18 and the game 3-1.
The Lions outscored the Colonels by 31 points(75-44) in the final three sets.
Nicholls setter Evelyn Trivino Espinosa led the game in assists with 37, a career-high for the senior. Teammate Kenley Nonato led the game in digs, recording 19, the fourth-highest total for the freshman libero.
The Colonels pick back up on Saturday, Nov. 2 with an 11 a.m. start against Texas A&M-Commerce.
