The Nicholls State University Student Government Association appointed a new senator and addressed the pressing Wi-Fi issue impacting campus.
Appointments
The SGA appointed one new officer at their weekly meeting. Vanessa Valadez Luevano now serves as the senator for the College of Liberal Arts.
Announcements
Jax Badeaux, student body president, announced a potential plan for fixing the pressing Wi-Fi issues in academic buildings.
The problem with the current Wi-Fi arrangement is that the access points were placed intermittently throughout each building’s hallways.
With more students drawing from these access points, Wi-Fi has become significantly slower.
Badeaux’s potential solution to resolve this issue entails setting up new Wi-Fi access points inside each classroom.
Badeaux stated that this new arrangement would be implemented within most academic buildings across campus. The status of approval for this plan is to be determined.
Cosmetic adjustments to the campus were also discussed at the weekly meeting. A plan is in place to pave a new sidewalk catty-corner to Peltier Hall emphasizing natural pathways created by students’ walking paths.
Approvals
The Senate passed four motions and tabled three. Among the four passed were motions to provide funding for student organization travel, the purchase of Nicholls Lapel Pins, amendments to the Election Code and co-sponsorship of an NAACP event.
The meeting adjourned at 4:44 p.m.
