Nicholls State University’s Career Services hosts its annual All Majors Career Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bollinger Student Union Ballroom.
Seventy employers will represent over 24 industries at the fair. Those employers include Ochsner Health, St. Landry Parish School Board, Louisiana State Police and WGNO/NOLA 38.
Career Services is implementing a Career Corner at this fair. The Career Corner will have free professional clothing for students to use.
You can visit the Career Corner after check-in. Clothing is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
It is advised that students come dressed in business casual attire.
Students attending should download the Handshake app on their phones. Students can use Handshake to scan QR codes at check-in and during the fair.
Career Services Director, Katherine Mabile, advises students attending the Career Fair to:
- Research Employers: Review the list of attending companies and prioritize the ones that align with your career interests. Research their values, job openings, and key information to tailor your conversations and demonstrate genuine interest.
- Polish Your Résumé: Update your résumé, highlighting relevant skills and experiences. Bring multiple copies to hand out and consider customizing it for different employers.
- Practice Your Elevator Pitch: Prepare a concise introduction highlighting your background, skills, and career goals. Be confident and ready to explain how you can add value to the company.
“Students should attend the All Majors Career Fair to explore diverse career opportunities, network with employers from various industries, and gain insights into different job roles,” Mabile said The event allows students to make valuable connections, ask questions directly to recruiters, and understand what companies seek in candidates.”
Additional career help can be found in the Career Services office located on the first floor of Ellender Memorial Library, across from the Brew. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
