This week we feature two poems written by senior Annelle Fletcher.
Sticks
Your beautiful smile is what I cling to when I lie awake at night,
Hoping and wishing that you were just next to me.
I think of your joyful laugh as the storm rages on,
While I cry thinking of the short time we had.
Your strong arms and steady frame felt like home holding me,
And spinning me during the dance of my dreams.
We ended the night by secretly breaking the rules,
And the only ones who knew were the stars above.
Our laughter rang through the dark and empty field,
While we finally got to see the true versions of each other.
The cold began to seep through our clothes,
And we decided to end the night and walk home.
That night was just like the movies, but just the beginning;
There were no love confessions or strong revelations in the end.
If only we had more time, then I could have told you
That I was beginning to fall in love with you.
I know you probably do not feel the same since it has been so long,
But I wanted to say, “Je t’aime,” and thanks for making me smile.
Summer Rain
The thunderous sound fills the air,
While you sit and wait.
The sky, now angry and dark,
Was once soft and sweet.
You wonder when the drops will begin.
You listen as the pitter patter hits the glass.
The summer rain pushes
Everyone inside to take a break.
The sweltering heat from the air is forgotten,
While all gather inside to escape the storm.
You lie down and listen by the window
As the drizzle begins to dampen the earth.
The storm has much to say
And fills your ears with its rumbling.
You peacefully wait for it to roll through
As it continues its growl.
The rain shower has poured its fill
And moves on to the next town.
The sun returns
And so does its bright warmth.
