Nicholls softball ended its conference series at UIW with a 4-2 win on Saturday.
The Colonels scored two runs in the ninth inning and shut the Cardinals in their half of the inning to take the extra-innings win.
The two late runs came off the bats of series’ hit leaders Alexa Poche’(6) and Reagan Heflin(5). Heflin hit an RBI double for the first run of the inning and Poche’ hit an RBI double to drive Heflin in for the second.
Nicholls’ win in game three prevented a series sweep for UIW.
The series started roughly for the Colonels losing the first game 11-3 in five innings after the mercy rule was used.
In game two Nicholls saw a complete defensive turnaround, holding a shutout into the sixth inning with a three-run advantage, but UIW stormed back with a two-run sixth inning and a walk-off two-run RBI double in the seventh to take game two and the series win.
