LAKE CHARLES, La. – The No. 7 seed Nicholls State University women’s basketball team are victorious in the first round of the 2024 Southland Tournament.
Nicholls defeated the No. 6 seed Texas A&M University-Commerce 73-66 on Monday, March 11.
This is the Colonel’s first victory in the tournament since 2021.
Senior guard Mikayla Etienne, coming off the bench, led the team in scoring with 19 points.
Kyla Hamilton, Lexi Alexander, and Deonna Brister also scored double-digit points.
Alexander recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She also picked up an assist and a block.
Hamilton played as a huge asset on defense, scoring 18 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.
Brister also contributed defensively, with 12 points, five rebounds, one assist, and three steals.
Nicholls moves on to round two, where Southeastern Louisiana University awaits the Colonels.
That game is scheduled for tomorrow, March 12 with tip-off scheduled for 1:30 p.m., airing on ESPN+.
