The Nicholls State University baseball team completed a three-game sweep against Grambling State University on March 10 by defeating them 5-2.
The win brings Nicholls to an overall record of 16-3.
Parker Coddou, Garrett Felix, and Kade Turnage each contributed one run, while Narvin Booker Jr. contributed two runs. Each batter recorded one hit.
The game was scoreless through two innings, until a sacrifice fly from Coddou brought Booker in from third base in the third inning.
Nicholls would score another run in the fourth thanks to a Basiel Williams hit that sent Felix to home, and two in the fifth thanks to a Coddou double that brought Turnage in before Coddou himself scored.
Grambling was able to put up one run in the top of the fifth.
Nicholls scored one more run in the sixth from Booker and Grambling scored one in the seventh.
Nicholls head coach Mike Silva said the pitching staff did great in the win.
“I thought Michael [Quevedo] really set the tone,” Silva said. “Devin [Desandro] also came out of the bullpen great, so it’s great to see.”
Quevedo pitched 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts, and Desandro pitched the last two innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three batters.
Nicholls has swept every home series this season so far, which Silva said is a tough thing to do.
“It hasn’t always been pretty, but it’s been consistent,” Silva said. “I don’t think we’ve played close to our best baseball yet, though.”
Nicholls will take on Dillard University on Tuesday, March 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Ray E. Didier Field before heading to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on Nebraska University for the weekend.
