Nicholls State University’s Student Government Association appoints new vice president after former steps down.
Former Vice President Lance Jones stepped down from his role at the beginning of the Spring 2024 semester. Karishma Nathaniel, a junior Biology Pre-med student, became the new vice president of the SGA.
Nathaniel stated that Jones stepped down due to personal reasons, but her previous position as pro temp let her understand the position better.
“Unfortunately, our former vice president had to resign due to personal reasons […] Now, coming into the role as the Vice President, it’s a little bit easier because I’m accustomed to how SGA works and how things go […] It was a little bit of a transition but not too bad because I was already in place to assume such a role as this,” Nathaniel said.
As the vice president, Nathaniel is the president of the Senate. She said that being in this position is not something she planned on but will follow Jones’ example of helping the students and senators with their SGA projects.
Jax Badeaux, SGA president and a senior political science major, said the transition of Jones to Nathaniel went smoothly. He believes that SGA operates as usual despite the changes.
“It’s been pretty seamless. Lance and I had worked together a semester before [he stepped down], so we had a way of doing things just in our own way. Working with her, I got to know her over the past few weeks more closely than I had before when she was a senator because she’s in the office now. She and I meet weekly as well. Really, nothing has changed in terms of what we are doing as the SGA,” Badeaux said.
Badeaux said the SGA advocated well during the previous semester and will continue to do so with Nathaniel as the vice president.
