The Colonel Closet is an on campus organization that provides Nicholls State University’s students, staff and faculty access to some new, but mostly reused, items that were donated.
Items such as school supplies, clothing and furniture are all readily available for free in the Colonel Closet. It is located on the left side of Brady Clubhouse in the breezeway.
They have been working on a new project lately that is called the Colonel Closet Pantry.
The Colonel Closet Pantry is a cupboard that is located across from the Colonel Closet.
Andi Sonnier, Nicholls Student Affairs Case Manager, stated that, “The mission of the Nicholls State University “Colonel Closet Pantry” is to provide supplemental food, household and hygiene items at no cost to university community members who may be experiencing food and/or financial insecurities.”
Anyone is able to go to the pantry and have free access to it throughout the day and take as much food as they need at no cost. They encourage people to only take what they may possibly need for a short period of time.
Sonnier said, “The “Colonel Closet Pantry” provides needed support, helping to ensure that no one within the university community has to choose between food and other basic needs. Through collaborative partnerships with Terrebonne Churches United Food Bank (TCU), Second Harvest Food Bank, Dairy Max, Rouses, and a generous donation from the Danos Family Foundation, Nicholls State University is able to provide the university community with 24 hour access to food, dairy and supplies.”
Recently, they were awarded a grant from Dairy Max, giving them a new, improved cooler to stock their dairy products in. The dairy products inside were funded by a one year grant awarded to them by Rouses.
On Nov. 9, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to honor the opening. Afterwards, there will be a cookie and milk social to follow it.
It is being held in the Brady Clubhouse common area, where the culinary students will be making and distributing cookies from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
