The City of Thibodaux found a leak in the main water line that supplies water to Talbot Hall on Sep. 25.
Two days later, on Sep. 27 at 8:09 p.m. Alex Coad, Director of Housing, emailed residents with a message saying a city water line burst and water pressure would be low to none.
On Sep. 28 at 8:17 a.m. Jerad David, Director of Communications, emailed the Nicholls State University community saying, “The City of Thibodaux experienced a break in a major water line near campus on Audubon Drive last night.”
The email went on to explain that city crews have been working to identify and repair the line but there is no estimated time for the full restoration of water service.
While Nicholls campus does still have water service at this time, the pressure is low, causing restrooms to become un-operational.
“We ask that the campus community conserve water if possible to help with the issue, as many of the university buildings are air conditioned by a water-cooled system. If the water pressure drops too low, these chillers may need to be shut off and temperatures in buildings may rise,” said David.
At 10:14 a.m. on Sep. 28, David sent out another email to campus alerting everyone that the campus was closing and classes from 10:20 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. had been canceled.
Solutions to night classes and other campus activities are set to be decided by 3:00 p.m. today.
On campus dining services will remain open for all campus residents.
Nicholls faculty and staff were advised to prepare for a remote work setup.
As the university communicates further updates, the Nicholls Worth will continue to update as well.
