The Colonel Esports lounge, located next to the food court in the Donald G. Bollinger Memorial Student Union, is moving to a new location.
The new area will be located on the first floor of the Ellender Memorial Library, in the former computer lab. With the recent rapid growth of the club, president Evan Moore said it was time for a new space.
“As we’re getting more interest in the club, the games we play, and our community events, it was time for a new space. We were so lucky and so fortunate to get the space in the library,” Moore said.
According to Moore, with the new space, they’ll “be able to host a lot bigger events, including our Super Smash Bros tournament.” The club’s Super Smash Bros tournaments have gained recognition statewide and is looked at as one of the biggest tournaments in the state, in regards to that game.
In addition to more events, Moore says that more PC’s will be able to be added, which allows for more practice time and more availability. “The new space will also allow for better viewing for spectators during events,” he said.
Another big thing that the new space will be able to add is the addition of tabletop games. Moore is excited to add Dungeons and Dragons and Magic to the lineup of games offered by the club. “I know that Magic is a big thing around the community and around here, and it’s something that hasn’t really been tapped into around this area, so I’m very excited for that,” he added.
Moore thanks the donors for the ability to move into this new space. “I cannot be more thankful for all of the support we’ve had from our donors. Between our donors, Give-N-Day, and our summer camps that we hold, none of this would be possible without them.”
Moore said that big things are coming, and he’s very excited to share them with everyone.
The new space is slated to be complete and open later this semester, but no exact date was given.
