On Aug. 29, Student Government Association [SGA] President, Jax Badeaux, signed a motion allowing for nearly 90 new parking spaces to be added on campus.
Two of the tennis courts in front of Millet Hall will be converted into a new parking area, allowing nearly 90 more vehicles to be parked in that parking lot. These parking spaces are currently estimated to be complete by Nov. 1.
Opening up more parking spaces was a top priority for Badeaux while campaigning to become president of the association. He and Senator Timyra Cotton worked on the legislature together.
“Even with fluctuations in enrollment, I saw the need for additional parking spaces near academic buildings. I’m excited because, to the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that SGA has improved such a vital part of campus infrastructure. I know students are going to appreciate the increased parking availability,” said Badeaux.
Badeaux believes that adding the new spaces will alleviate some of the frustration that commuters experience on campus.
Badeaux also encourages students to take into consideration commute time and traffic when preparing for the school week. “Of course, when everyone arrives at the same time, traffic becomes more congested in frequented areas. Arriving a few minutes early could help with traffic.”
Students will still have access to tennis facilities on campus, however, as an alternative, there are also several courts available to play on at Thibodaux Regional Wellness Center.
