SGA Recap 4/11
The Student Government Association (SGA) held their weekly meeting in the LeBijou Theater on Apr. 11.
Nicholls State University’s President Dr. Jay Clune opened the meeting by updating the Senate on many different projects happening around Nicholls campus. He talked about renovating the residence halls across campus.
“We are trying to paint the residence halls, change out the lights, replace the carpets in the hallways, and take the carpets out of the rooms,” Clune stated. “We are trying to create the best undergraduate experience in the state of Louisiana.”
Executive Director Dr. Eugene Dial then addressed the Senate to talk about the Higher Education Administration and Higher Education and Technology Leadership programs. He promoted that if a student wanted to work for a college or university, or if a student didn’t know what they wanted to do after graduation, to look into the program.
The Higher Education Administration program has classes on how to do administration in a school or college. The Higher Education and Technology Leadership program will teach students how to implement new technology into school systems.
“We see a lot of programs are going to evolve electronically,” Dial said.
After Dial, Election Commissioner Carson Duet told the Senate that SGA had a complaint filed against the election commission. The SGA was in violation of the election code for using logos. The SGA was fined $50, and the money went to Mom’s Pantry.
“This way a student can benefit from the fine,” Duet stated.
During unfinished business, the motions for new carts in the resident halls, games for Free Speech Alley, a new trash can in Peltier Courtyard, five anatomy models, and funding an English class trip all passed.
During new business, the motions to put patio lights along Free Speech Alley and funding overtime pay for Ellender Library staff during finals week were tabled.
The meeting adjourned at 4:36 pm.
