Hurricane Ida: Emergency Weather Updates

Deigned by Alaina Maiorana

Tropical Storm Ida continues to gain strength as it moves into the warm waters of the WEGulf of Mexico and heads towards Louisiana.

The university will remain open until the close of business today. Keep your eyes open for any emails from professors and staff about evacuation or possible class cancellations for next week.

The storm is expected to make landfall near Terrebonne Parish late Sunday afternoon as a category 3 hurricane with winds of 120+ mph.

Conditions might worsen late Saturday through Sunday, so it is important to be prepared for a rapidly intensifying storm.

Hurricane Ida will most likely still be in the region on Monday.

Gov. John Bel Edwards has declared an emergency for all of Louisiana, and he says that everyone in the danger area should be in a safe place to ride out the storm by Saturday night.

Stay tuned for more updates to come.
