Duke of Edinburgh passes away at age 99
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, passed away early Friday morning on April 9.
He was 99 years old and passed two months before his 100 birthday. There is still no official cause of death. It was announced that he passed away “peacefully” in Windsor Castle. Prince Philip has been married to Queen Elizabeth for 70 years. He holds the title of longest-serving royal consort in the nation.
Prince Philip’s funeral will be held Saturday, April 17. The funeral will be relatively small-scaled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Harry, Duke of Sussex, is said to be returning home for the funeral from California, but his wife, Meghan Markle, will not be attending due to her pregnancy.
The prince’s coffin will be carried by a Land Rover from Windsor Castle to St. George’s Chapel. The procession will start at 2:45 PM (8:45 PM CST). There will be a funeral service broadcast online on both BBC and NBC.
Both Prince William and his brother Harry have released statements on their late grandfather’s passing.
