The Nicholls State University Student Government Association held its weekly meeting in LeBijou Theater in the student union.

Executive Vice President Alex Arceneaux was introduced by Sydney Matherne, SGA vice president, as a guest speaker. Arceneaux spoke mainly about social distancing and facemasks on campus. He reported to the organization that Nicholls administration has been receiving complaints about noncompliance with government and university regulations.

Arceneaux also explained that more signs will be placed around campus as reminders of the regulations. One senator contended that there are many signs on Nicholls’ campus that don’t seem to be working very well.

Following Arceneaux’s address, SGA President Ethan Naquin gave his President’s Report. Naquin reported that he will be attending emergency meetings throughout the week regarding the tropical storm growing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Later in the meeting, one senator announced that there will be an LGBTQ+ Coming Out Table event in the Bollinger Memorial Student Union on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.

This will be Nicholls State University’s second year hosting this event. She explained that the event will feature guest speakers who will talk about their own coming out experiences. The event will greatly benefit members of the student body that are a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
