Take-out options still on campus

Galliano Dining Hall,  Chick-fil-A and The Grid and Original Burger Company, in the student union, all remain open on campus for take-out meals only.

The cafeteria is open during its regular hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Brunch is held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner is 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Russell Barrios, dining services general manager, said the students are still able to choose from pizza, grill, the salad bar or the home-style entrée. The cafeteria also has limited desserts and pre-wrapped breakfast items. Students are given a cup with a lid and straw on entry to use at the fountain machines, and servers fill to-go boxes with whatever students choose. Barrios said this plan is still fluid and is subject to change as other university changes take place.

While the Chick-fil-A on campus is open to everyone, it is now offering free meals for children ages 12 and under through the end of the month. The free meals will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The meal includes four chicken nuggets, one small fry and one kid’s fountain drink. Meals are limited to one per child, and a parent or legal guardian must accompany children.

Off campus, many organizations are working toward providing free or low price meals in a safe manner.

Houma Today reports that the restaurant delivery service, Waitr, is working with restaurant partners to offer free delivery and marketing programs and is supplying all drivers with gloves. Coupons were found around the Nicholls residence halls, offering free delivery when ordering more than $20 worth of food.

Houma Today also reported that nearly 300 emergency meals were handed out Thursday to kids in Lafourche who are being kept away from school by the Coronavirus outbreak. This program is scheduled to run through April 9 and is set to provide kids 18 and under free meals at Thibodaux, Central Lafourche and South Lafourche high schools. Cafeteria workers are also handing out package meals to lined up cars in front of the schools.
