Softball faces final conference series of regular season against Southeastern:

The softball team extended its five-game conference winning streak when it faced Lamar on April 26 and 27.

After losing the first game 5-4 on Friday, the Colonels managed to win both games on Saturday with scores of 3-0 and 3-1, placing them second in the overall Southland Conference standings.

This week, the Colonels will play their final series of the regular season against Southeastern, who, at the moment, is ranked fourth overall.

The first game will take place at home on May 3 at 6 p.m. The next two games will be played on May 4 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Baseball to play Southern University away and Houston Baptist at home:

The baseball team started off last week by losing to Jackson State 6-0, but it quickly got its momentum back, winning against LSU-Alexandria 3-0.

The Colonels also swept San Jose State in a home series on April 26 through 28.

On May 1, they will be in action against Southern University in Baton Rouge—a team that they managed to beat 4-2 at home on April 2.

On May 3-5, the Colonels have a conference matchup against Houston Baptist.

At the moment, Houston Baptist is on a three-game losing streak, while Nicholls is on a three-game winning streak.

Men’s and women’s track and field to head to Southland Outdoor Championships:

The men’s and women’s track and field teams are both heading to the finale of their season at the Southland Outdoor Championships.

The championships will take place in Natchitoches from May 3-5.

Head coach Stefanie Slekis said both teams have been “peaking” at different times, which shows the product of their training.

“It is neat that almost every meet that we go to we have some highlights, so I think that’s a positive, because we are training hard,” Slekis said.

The final meet will also be the first championship for the newly-reinstated men’s outdoor track team.
