Netflix has released new and original romantic comedies that have been trending among the entertainment industry in 2018.

The recent release, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018),” tells the story of high school student Lara Jean, who is a hopeful romantic that never had a boyfriend. To cope with her problems, she wrote a letter to each of her crushes at the time she liked them, but she never sent them. The conflict starts when her little sister finds them and sends the letters to her former crushes, creating disaster for Lara Jean.

“Set It Up” was released in 2018 and has one of the highest critic reviews among all of the Netflix romantic comedies. The film follows assistants Harper and Charlie, two people who work in the same building for their two outrageous bosses. In desperate need of a break, the assistants form a series of situations to make their bosses fall for each other.

Although the ending was predictable for a romantic comedy, I did enjoy this movie and I would watch it again. The allusions to Cyrano de Bergerac was something I admired having read the play last year. If you like cheesy romantic comedies, I would highly recommend this movie.

“When We First Met (2018)” follows the life of Noah and starts the first time he meets Avery at a Halloween party. After a failed date, they remain friends and Avery gets engaged to Ethan, while Noah still has feelings for her. Soon after, Noah returns to a photo booth where their first date was and goes back in time to relive the same day they met in attempt to get Avery to fall in love with him.

After watching this film, I kind of wish I hadn’t. The plot was good overall, but the repetition of the same scene over and over again with a few minor details changed each time made me feel like I had watched the movie more times than I wanted to. If you don’t mind this element, I think the movie could be enjoyable to watch.

“The Kissing Booth” was released in 2018 and has one of the lowest critic reviews of all of the Netflix original romantic comedies. The plot surrounds best friends Elle and Lee and their set of rules to make their friendship last. The only problem is that rule number nine on the list strictly forbids romantic relationships with each other’s families, while Elle’s long-term crush is Lee’s older brother. As a carnival kissing booth forces Elle to face her problem head on, she is left to deal with the consequences of love and friendship.

Make sure to check out these four romantic comedies to see how the plots unfold.
