Nicholls will hold its first ever Big Bayou Trivia Bash to support student excellence initiatives in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Donald G. Bollinger Memorial Student Union on Feb. 24.

John Doucet, dean of the college of arts and sciences, said that there will be 10 categories in the trivia contest and each will contain 10 questions. There will be a brain buster question in each of the 10 categories that will give contestants bonus points if they give the right answer.

Some of the categories in the event include geographic trivia of the United States as well as Louisiana and the Nicholls service region. There will also be general knowledge questions.

“We’ll name championship and reserve champion titles. The Champion team will receive a cash award” said Doucet.

The money for the award will come from the proceeds and some corporate sponsorships.

“All proceeds will be used for students to succeed in and out of the classroom” Doucet said.

For instance, proceeds will fund the student excellence initiatives such as scholarships, technology and high-impact practices, which includes research in the classroom.

“[I am] thrilled that we can do this, and [I am] thrilled with the support from the community. I hope to see all the folks I played against at various contests to take time at Nicholls to help out our cause, and I hope [that it will be] a long running event” Doucet said.

The questions were made by a secret panel and a former Jeopardy game show finalist.

There can be up to six people on a trivia team at $30 per person. In order to see the event one must be on a team.

The event will run about three hours, and there will be refreshments for sale. There will also be a silent auction of gift baskets, works of art, home furnishings, antique items and autographed books.

The Big Bayou Trivia Bash will take place on Feb. 24 at 6:00 p.m. Those wishing to participate can sign up by calling (985)-448-4386, by email at [email protected] or on the Big Bayou Trivia Bash Facebook page.
