Nicholls Tennis opened season strong at home

February 6, 2018

The Nicholls State University men’s and women’s tennis teams kicked off the start of their 2018 seasons last weekend when they shut out Mississippi Valley State University and Loyola University New Orleans at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

DOUBLEHEADER DOMINATION
The men’s and women’s teams both played doubleheaders against MVSU on Friday, and both won with scores of 7-0 and 4-0. On the women’s side, no points were given up to the Delta Devils, while the men’s team only gave up three points.

Stefanie Barnett, a redshirt junior from Melbourne, Australia, took the court for the first time in almost two years on Friday against MVSU. Now that she has recovered from her injuries, Barnett said it feels good to be back on the court competing.

“I had a lot of time off, so it’s good to be back playing,” said Barnett. “I feel that with every match, it’s going to get better.”

On Saturday, the women’s team was able to add another win after they managed to beat Loyola in doubles and singles just before inclement weather came into the area. Due to the rain, the men’s match against the Wolf Pack was postponed.

LOOKING AHEAD
The men’s and women’s teams will continue their home stretch in Thibodaux against the Alcorn State University Braves and Lady Braves this Wednesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex. Both games are slated for 1:30 p.m.
