Volleyball loses final two matches of season

The Nicholls State University volleyball team completed its 2017 campaign on the road against
Northwestern State University and Central Arkansas University this past week.

The Colonels faced the Demons in Natchitoches Thursday, and lost in three sets with scores of
25-14, 25-17 and 25-20. They again lost in three sets to the Sugar Bears in Conway, Ark.
Saturday with scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-20.

The Colonels (4-25, 2-14 SLC) ended their season on a six-game losing streak, with their last
victory of the year against the Lamar Cardinals Oct. 19.

The squad failed to improve from their (8-24, 3-13 SLC) record, 4-10 road record and 3-6 home
record from the 2016 season. In 2017, the Colonels posted a 1-13 road record and a 2-7 home
record. However, their neutral site records both had one win each; in 2016, Nicholls had a 1-8
record and in 2017, Nicholls had a 1-5 record.

The Colonels finished 12 th in the Southland Conference standings out of 13 teams, ahead of the
Southeastern Louisiana Lions. The team was unable to qualify for the Southland Conference
Tournament, and will now enter the offseason.

The Colonels had three team members this season, middle hitter Emily Weimer, outside hitter
Stephanie Tobison and middle blocker Sydney Lerille, who played in their final collegiate season
for Nicholls. The team wished for a brighter outcome, but enjoyed the competition and
excitement of the volleyball season.

The Colonels hope to have more success in the future. The offseason should provide rest and
renewal for the team for the 2018 season.
