Volleyball winless in Texas road-trip

The Nicholls State University volleyball team ventured throughout the state of Texas last week
to compete in three road matches and lost each contest.
Nicholls faced Sam Houston State Tuesday night and lost in three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-8
and 25-14. On Thursday, the team lost in four sets to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi with scores
of 25-21, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-13. Then on Saturday, Nicholls lost in four sets to Incarnate Word
with scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-23 and 25-16.
The Colonels (2-16) have lost eight straight matches and sit at the bottom of the Southland
Conference standings.
Head coach Tommy Harold said the Texas road trip was both long and tough, but he saw some
progress from his players during the week.
Harold said, “I thought we made some progress Thursday and Saturday, but we’re still looking to
be a little more consistent and compete a little more.”
The Colonels stay home for a four-game stretch in 10 days starting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against
Sam Houston State. Harold said the four teams they will face will be competitive and the home
crowd will benefit his team.
“The competition we have coming in is going to be tough,” Harold said. “We’ve got some good
teams coming in, but the team is making strides in the right direction and we’ve got to continue
on that track.”
The Colonels face the Sam Houston State Bearkats Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Stopher Gymnasium
and will face the Abilene Christian Wildcats Saturday at noon. They will also match up with the
Central Arkansas Bears Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m. and the Northwestern State Demons Oct. 14 at
noon.
