Homecoming Kick-off Block Party starts off Homecoming Week

October 3, 2016

Nicholls Homecoming Week was kicked off this Sunday with a community block party.

The party took place in downtown Thibodaux, a hotspot for many Nicholls students. There was an introduction of the homecoming court nominees and a pep rally to get everyone in the spirit of homecoming week. Matt Gregory, interdisciplinary studies major from Thibodaux and homecoming court nominee, attended the event.

“It’s always a fun time,” Gregory said. “You get to listen to the bands, eat a goose burger and get to see your friends on court.”

Live music and hamburgers were set up outside of the Red Goose Saloon. Russ Cheramie Music performed first and shared a set of acoustic songs with the crowd. 5 Finger Discount, a cover-band out of New Orleans, played music ranging from the 80’s to 00’s with hits like Don’t Stop Believing and Uptown Funk to get people up on their feet and dancing.

Ian Shows, a mass communication senior from Houma, also attended the event.

“I’m glad it’s in Downtown considering a lot of college students spend a good amount of time here,” Shows said. “It’s a lively and fun atmosphere”

There were guest appearances from the 2015 homecoming king and queen, Trace Juneau and Elizabeth Clement, who was escorted by Colonel Tillou.

Be sure to check out the different homecoming events going on every day this week.
